Welcome to CRICKET CLUB OF DHAKURIA

It was pre independence period in India, a group of young boys, all hailing from different middle class families of the then Dhakuria a suburban fringe situated at the Southern part of kolkata, who used to believe in plane living and high thinking decided to play cricket with a serious note. Under the able leadership of Sri Nil Madhab Sen Gupta that young brigade comprising of Sri Bimal Chandra Ghosh, Sri Balai Chand Ghosh, Sri Diptikar Ganguly, Sri Jyotirmoy Sen Gupta, Sri Ranjit Das Gupta, Sri Alok Mitra, Sri Anath Jiban Guha, Sri Kartik Sarkar, Sri Somen Das Gupta, Sri Amiya Banerjee, Sri Satyen Das Gupta and Sri Ramani Mohan Sarkar decided to form a BOYS club for playing cricket. They unanimously opined to name the organisation as CRICKET CLUB OF DHAKURIA by imitating the patriotic styled CRICKET CLUB OF INDIA at Bombay, on 10th September 1946.

For them at that time it was not so easy to run the show, because playing cricket was always an expensive affair. So Sri Nil Madhab Sen Gupta appealed before his young brigade, who were at their late teens to contribute from their pocket expenses. Though they abided to that call, but, still it was not so easy to meet the bills. So silently those boys decided to find out alternative ways of collection, which included exercises like preparing cow dung cakes, which were used as fuel for open fire cooking in those days, they also brought innovation for collection by making thongas from newspaper and sell those to nearby shops.

In this way they continued for two more years, after which Mr Nil Madhab Sen Gupta addressed his team members for becoming little more organised by getting affiliated with The Cricket Association of Bengal. They decided to approach the parent body of Bengal cricket and earned the affiliation status, after fulfilling certain criterias and paraphernalia laid down from the association.
